Careful Confrontation™

Witnessing people through compassion and careful confrontation™ is my superpower, but it began with my own wellness journey.

I am an elder daughter of Antillean Panamanian [read: unapologetically Black and Caribbean] U.S. immigrants who knows the weight of needing my professional accomplishments to be big enough to cover the compounding debt of my parents’ unrequitable sacrifices. My educational background includes a private Christian school, a premier magnet school, and two highly-selective predominantly white institutions; my employers have included highly-selective predominantly white institutions and elite independent schools. However, for almost 30 years, my core identity was defined by my experiences with relational trauma until I sought therapeutic support. Despite it all, I knew the experience of feeling as if my relative privilege made my pain unworthy of processing space.

My clients often come to me feeling invisible, even though their impact in the lives of others is very visible. They often use perfectionism and people pleasing as an unconscious coping strategy to have their worthiness affirmed and, when that affirmation feels unattainable, they settle for abandonment—until their unmet need to be witnessed compels them to seek affirmation through perfectionism and people pleasing all over again. It’s a painful re-enactment and they come to me because they are ready to be done with it.

I see you and I’m ready for you to be done with it, too. Choosing to be witnessed is a radical act and creates new possibilities in your life. Dare to be radical. Dare to see what’s possible. Dare to be witnessed™.

With Love,
